Liberty Hill, Texas Lifestyle

Liberty Hills provides its residents with ample opportunity to enjoy the great outdoors and the natural beauty of Texas. While amenities within the town are limited, it does feature a vast amount of green space, park land and other natural areas for residents to enjoy. These spaces boast natural amenities, such as lakes and rivers, for residents to utilize at their leisure. As such, common activities enjoyed by Liberty Hill residents include horseback riding, swimming, mountain biking, hiking, fishing and boating. The Balcones Canyonlands Wildlife Refuge is also located just a few miles to the west.

In addition to offering opportunities for communing with nature, Liberty Hill also boasts several restaurants and shops. More amenities and conveniences can also be discovered at the nearby communities of Cedar Park and Georgetown, which offers a variety of major retailers and other services. Numerous golf courses are also located between Austin and Liberty Hill, including Avery Ranch Golf Club, and Twin Creeks Country Club. Meanwhile, Liberty Hill’s artistic side can be explored at the Liberty Hill International Sculpture Park. Erected in 1976 as part of the International Sculpture Symposium, the park hosts 27 monumental pieces from concrete, limestone, granite and bronze.

Liberty Hill residents are educated by the Liberty Hill Independent School District (ISD), which has been rated as Recognized by the Texas Education Agency. Schools located within the district include Liberty Hill Elementary School (Grades PK-1), Burden Elementary School (Grades 2-4), Liberty Hill Intermediate School (Grades 5-6), Liberty Hill Junior High School and Liberty Hill High School. The district also places a strong emphasis on extracurricular activities, with the Liberty Hill High School football team winning the Texas Football State Championship in 3A Division II in 2006 and the 3A Division I Championship in 2007.

Liberty Hill’s early settlers date back to the 1840’s with a post office established in 1853 in an area located three miles to the west of the current townsite. The postmaster, William Olive Spencer, recommended the name of Liberty Hill. Prior to 1882, the town moved eastward on two occasions before shifting once again in response to the Northwestern Railroad route. Following the construction of the railroad, the town began to grow more rapidly and chartered the Liberty Normal and Business College in 1884. Despite the community’s growth, it continued to have a population of only around 500 through the 1990’s.

Offering a small-town atmosphere within a rural setting, the fast-growing community of Liberty Hill provides its residents with easy access to Austin’s urban center.
