Liberty Hill’s early settlers date back to the 1840’s with a post office established in 1853 in an area located three miles to the west of the current townsite. The postmaster, William Olive Spencer, recommended the name of Liberty Hill. Prior to 1882, the town moved eastward on two occasions before shifting once again in response to the Northwestern Railroad route. Following the construction of the railroad, the town began to grow more rapidly and chartered the Liberty Normal and Business College in 1884. Despite the community’s growth, it continued to have a population of only around 500 through the 1990’s.

Offering a small-town atmosphere within a rural setting, the fast-growing community of Liberty Hill provides its residents with easy access to Austin’s urban center.
