Now that you have bought your dream home, it is time to take steps to start personalizing the house and making it a place that you can truly call home.  Luckily, there are many things that you can do to make your home more personal. Some of these changes can be a bit costly, while others won’t cost you much at all.

Painting the Walls

Most homeowners looking to sell their home paint the walls in a neutral color in order to make the home more appealing to potential buyers.  You can keep the walls this natural color if that appeals to you, but adding a bit of color to your walls can help you with creating a home that reflects your personal tastes.  Have fun with color and don’t be afraid to go a little wild.  After all, you can always paint them again if you don’t like what you come up with!

Decorate the Walls

Nothing makes a home look more sterile than having bare walls.  Get a family photo taken and get a large print of the photo to hang on your wall.  Or look for artwork or framed posters to decorate your walls.  Even getting a photo blown up from one of your favorite vacation destinations can make for a great conversation piece and can dress up your walls.

Change Your Cabinets

If you are not in the financial position to completely change out your kitchen or bathroom cabinets, or if the cabinets are fairly new and are in good shape, you might want to consider changing out the handles.  Just a simple change such as this can help to personalize your home and make it even more appealing to you and to your tastes.

Plant Flowers and Bushes

Nothing is more personal than adding some great landscaping to your home.  Planting a few flowers and bushes around the home can significantly increase its beauty while giving you something to feel proud of.  You might even add hanging flower baskets or window baskets to help liven up the home and give you a great connection with your new residence.

There are many things that you can do to personalize your home.  By moving in your own knick-knacks and mementos, you will automatically make the home more personal to you.  But, by making some changes in the colors or by transforming rooms to reflect your personal taste, you can change the house to a home where you can feel comfy, cozy, and happy.
