Round Rock, Texas Lifestyle

Ranked as the number one best big city metro area for jobs by Forbes magazine, Round Rock is a particularly attractive location for on-the-rise professionals. With its strong technology base, Round Rock offers excellent opportunities for those who are exploring a career in the technology sector. The Austin Bergstrom International Airport is also located just 45 minutes from the city, making travel a breeze for the community’s residents. Round Rock was also ranked as the 13th safest city in the United States. It was also named one of the 100 Best Communities for Young People by America’s Promise, The Alliance for Youth. The community has also been listed as the fifth Best Cities for Relocating Families in the country.

In addition to offering excellent employment and travel opportunities, Round Rock is also home to a number of amenities. Many of these can be found in the community’s “old town” section, which offers a number of one-of-a-kind boutiques and restaurants within a collection of mid-19th century buildings. Round Rock is also home to the Round Rock Premium Outlet Mall, which features over 150 specialty shops and high-quality brand retailers such as Coach, Calvin Klein and J Crew. The only IKEA located in Central Texas can also be found in Round Rock. Round Rock is also home to the Round Rock Express, which is a Triple-A minor league baseball team that has been recognized as one of the most successful minor league sports operations in the country.

Residents of the Round Rock community are primarily served by the Round Rock Independent School District (ISD). 17 of the district’s schools have been recognized as Exemplary by the Texas Education Agency while 15 have been rated as Recognized. The district current serves more than 45,000 students, with enrollment increasing by approximately 1,000 students every year. Examples of elementary schools serving the community include Brushy Creek Elementary School, Fern Bluff Elementary School and Great Oaks Elementary School. Middle schools include Canyon Vista Middle School, Deerpark Middle School and Ridgeview Middle School. High schools include Cedar Ridge High School, Stony Point High School and Round Rock High School. Two alternative schools also serve the community.

The area that is now known as Round Rock has been inhabited by humans since at least 9,200 BC. The modern development of the area took place in 1851 when a small community was formed on the banks of Brushy Creek near a large round and anvil-shaped rock. The rock was use to mark the low-water crossing for wagons, horses and cattle. The settlement was officially named Round Rock in 1854. Today, Round Rock serves as Austin’s largest suburb as it continues to grow at an impressive pace. Nonetheless, the region offers some of the lowest property taxes and utility rates in the region. With its affordable prices, excellent amenities and convenient location, Round Rock has earned its reputation for being one of the most desirable places to live in the Austin area.
