The district consists of 23 elementary schools, 7 middle schools and 5 high schools. Two alternative campuses also serve the district. In addition to serving the Leander community, the district serves Cedar Park, Jonestown and parts of Northwest Austin. As such, it is the tenth-fastest growing district in the country. Elementary schools serving Leander include Whitestone Elementary School, Pleasant Hill Elementary School, Clock House Elementary School and Rutledge Elementary School. Middle schools serving the community include Henry Middle School, Cedar Park Middle School, Canyon Ridge Middle School and Wiley Middle School, while high schools serving the community include Cedar Park High School, Vista Ridge High School and Charles Rouse High School.

Established in 1882 after the Austin and Northwestern Railroad Company sold land to real estate investors, the town of Leander has a rich history in the railroad industry. In fact, the town’s name is in honor of Leander “Catfish” Brown, who was one of the railroad men who helped to complete the railroad line that passed through the area. Today, Leander is a steadily growing city with more than 26,000 residents. With its affordable housing options, award-winning schools and exceptional amenities, it is little wonder the community is so highly-sought by those interested in living in the Austin area.
