Students who live in the Lake Travis are educated through the Lake Travis Independent School District (ISD). Formed in 1981, the Lake Travis ISD started as an offshoot to the Dripping Springs Independent School District. Serving over 7,000 students, the district has been rated as Exemplary by the Texas Education Agency. Lake Travis High School is also well-known for its highly-successful football program, which has won five state championships from 2007 through 2011. Due to major growth in the area, the high school has undergone numerous expansions since being originally constructed in 1988. Private schools in the area include Abercorn International School and St. Michael’s Catholic Academy.

As one of the seven Texas Highland Lakes, Lake Travis was formed by a chain of dams that were constructed in the 1930’s and 1940’s along the Colorado River. As the longest of the lakes, Lake Travis is one of the area’s most popular destinations for water recreation. While many consider the Lake Travis area to be restricted to the southeast shores and cliffs of the lake, real estate opportunities extend west through Lakeway to Spicewood. Real estate is also available on the north side of the lake in the Lago Vista, Point Venture and Jonestown areas.
