East Austin Lifestyle

Considered one of Austin’s most diverse areas, East Austin is home to college students, artists, entrepreneurs and young families. The neighborhood-centric region is rich with amenities and community facilities for residents to enjoy. Among these are the nearby Edward Rendon Park at Festival Beach, Govalle Park, Lady Bird Lake and Rosewood Park. The East Austin Neighborhood Center also provides a variety of services to residents who are in need.

The East Austin area is also known for its great local restaurants, businesses and attractions. Among these are the French Legation Museum, Huston-Tillotson College, Carver Library, Terrazas Library, Blackshear Neighborhood Garden and the Texas State Cemetary. The region is also known for its experimental theaters, music venues and nightlife opportunities. For foodies, the wide array of restaurants offer opportunities for everything from casual to formal dining with virtually every type of food imaginable on the menu. East Austin also has one of the highest concentrations of mobile food eateries the city has to offer, providing additional food options for those who are on the go.

East Austin is served by the Austin Independent School District (ISD). The district has a reputation for excellent teachers combined with an innovative curriculum, strong extracurricular programs and effective community collaboration. As such, the region has a strong Parent and Teacher Association as well as magnet programs for gifted students. Among these are the Liberal Arts and Science Academy and the Kealing Magnet Program.

Over the past few years, East Austin has experienced a construction boom. This is largely due to the fact that the region was the only centrally-located are that had yet to be fully developed As a result of this development, a growing number of additional housing opportunities are becoming available. Among the new developments in East Austin are Saltillo Lofts and Mueller, though signs of new construction and refurbishment can be seen on nearly block within the community.

The investments being made in the area’s roads, businesses and homes has also increased property values, thereby making the region an increasingly more expensive place to purchase a home. Higher property taxes are also making the region a less affordable option than it once was. Nonetheless, East Austin remains one of the more affordable areas to purchase a home in Austin with the greatest mixture of housing options available. For those looking at Austin Homes for sale, the east side will continue to be a very popular first choice. From modern living to funky East Side living, East Austin has it all.
