Those who live in Southwest Region attend school within the Austin Independent School District (ISD). The Austin ISD has consistently been recognized as Academically Acceptable by the Texas Education Agency for many years, while several schools within the district have been named as National Blue Ribbon Schools. Established in the 1980s on land donated by Circle C Ranch, James Bowie High School is the largest school within the district as well as the second largest school in Central Texas. Most students living in Southwest Austin attend James Bowie High School. Resting on 60 acres, the high school serves an estimated 3,000 students.

Southwest Austin is defined as the region that is bounded by I-35, Highway 71 to MoPac, Slaughter Lane to I-35 and the Travis County Line. The region is home to numerous communities, including master-planned neighborhoods such as Circle C and Meridian. Both communities boast numerous amenities, including basketball courts, volleyball courts, running trails, swimming pools and community centers. Other communities, such as Heights at Loma Vista, the Village at Western Oaks and Legend Oaks, are known for their old-growth oak trees and relaxed atmosphere. The Oak Hill area, which is comprised of numerous smaller neighborhoods, is also located in the Southwest Austin region. The community offers a wide variety of homes available at almost every price point. From well-established neighborhoods to modern developments, Southwest Austin has many options available for those who are interested in living in this scenic region of Austin.
