Northwest Austin Lifestyle

Northwest Austin offers a convenient location to the area’s best retail establishments and restaurants, with one of the most popular destinations being The Domain. The 1.3 million square foot upscale outdoor shopping mall boasts 100 stores. Among these are high-end retailers such as Louis Vuitton and Barneys. Other shopping destinations within Northwest Austin include The Arboretum, Gateway Shopping Center, Lakeline Mall and the Village at Westlake. Due to the region’s location just 20 minutes from downtown Austin, residents of Northwest Austin also enjoy easy access to the additional amenities and conveniences that the city of Austin has to offer.

While Northwest Austin is known for its many city amenities, residents of the region also enjoy plenty of opportunity to enjoy outdoor recreation. With Lake Austin located nearby, water-based recreational opportunities are popular among Northwest Austin residents. The Austin Country Club and a number of green spaces are also available near the area.

The Northwest Austin region is served by the Austin Independent School District (ISD). Many of the schools within the district are recognized as National Blue Ribbon Schools. Anderson High School, which offers courses through the International Baccalaureate program, is the primary school serving the Northwest Austin region. The high school was also the Southwest region’s winner of the College Board Award for Excellence and Innovation in the Arts in 2013. The school earned the reward in celebration of its innovative arts programming, which promotes both creativity and learning. Some of the elementary schools serving Northwest Austin include Davis Elementary School, Highland Park Elementary School and Hill Elementary School. Middle schools serving the region include Lamar Middle School and Murchison Middle School.

Northwest Austin is defined as the area that runs from FM 2222 to Palmer Road and from MoPac to Highway 620. With development of the region beginning in the late 1950’s, many of the homes within the region were built in the late 20th and 21st centuries. Nonetheless, some older homes can still be found in the area. While Northwest Austin has grown to become a true shopper’s paradise, it is also characterized by an abundance of natural beauty. As such, Northwest Austin is an excellent option for those who wish to enjoy the best of both worlds.
