Lake Austin Lifestyle

Those who live on Lake Austin enjoy ample opportunity to enjoy water-based activities, with many homes featuring private boat docks. Among the most popular of these activities are fishing, boating, kayaking and swimming in the clean waters. The lake itself remains at a constant level and stretches 22 miles between Mansfield Dam and Tom Miller Dam.

In addition to enjoying the lake, those who live on Lake Austin also have a variety of restaurants, shops and entertainment options within easy reach. Other nearby attractions and amenities include Lions Municipal Golf Course, the Austin Country Club, Red Bud Isle, Mayfield Park and Nature Preserve, Emma Long Metropolitan Park (City Park), Mt. Bonnell and Deep Eddy Park. Year after year, homes on Lake Austin continue to be the most sought after homes for sale anywhere in Austin.

Residents of communities located around Lake Austin are served by a variety of school districts, including Eanes Independent School District (ISD), Leander ISD and Austin ISD.

Lake Austin is one part of the chain of the Highland Lakes, which runs through Central Texas. Due to its long length and relatively narrow width, the lake looks more like a river than a lake. It is in fact a river with a dam at each end. The history of the Highland Lakes system dates back to the 1930’s and 1940’s when it was formed for electrical power generation and flood control as well as for recreation. Today, fishermen continue to enjoy catching largemouth bass in the lake, while boating and wakeboarding are popular water sports. With its water source coming from the bottom of Lake Travis, the lake’s water is typically cooler than Lake Travis. Nonetheless, with the proper gear, the lake offers year-round opportunities for outdoor fun. Given all that the area has to offer, it is little surprise that so many are interested in calling Lake Austin their home. If you would like to set an appointment to view homes on Lake Austin please contact one of our Austin real estate agents and we would be happy to help!
